Is it racist that most white people refuse to even acknowledge that MLK Day is a real holiday? How do you celebrate it, anyway? There's no special dinners, cookouts, BBQs, or even candy. A real holiday always involves FOOD!

In all fairness, the pancakes she brought to the pot luck were delightful.

Even more troubling than the lead idiot is the crowd of idiots guffawing along.

There are, generally, no special foods associated with Presidents' Day, Columbus Day, or Veterans' Day, either. Some people will make a cherry cheesecake and call it a George Washington pie on Presidents' Day, and others will make Italian foods on Columbus Day, but these practices are hardly widespread. As for Independence Day, Labor Day, and Memorial Day, they are associated with picnic foods, but only because they fall during weather that's usually good for picnics. Global warming and recent weather notwithstanding, MLK Day is usually not a wise time to schedule a picnic. I think that you celebrate it by listening to one of his speeches and eating whatever you want.

I once did the same kind of search, but not on You Tube. Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben's, Rastus from Cream of Wheat, all there on some site 'profiling' [ha!] racist black advertising thru the years. Also mentioned were Little Black Sambo, Amos 'n' Andy, Uncle Tom, Buckwheat, and many other menial, subservient characters from books and film. Most interesting were the actual ads featuring coal-colored piccaninnys [Dixie Boy vegetable seeds!] and lard-assed mammies all flashin' that same moon-pied smile. Funny, despite their impoverished conditions, they all seemed to have access to the best dental care around. You nevuh saw teeth so briaght!
